DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOODNIGHT,
OLD AGE SHOULD BURN AND RAVE AT CLOSE OF DAY,
RAGE, RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT.
DYLAN THOMAS "DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT"
— My Story
Ikigai - finding joy in life through purpose.
My name is Brad and I'm in my late 40's and have come to Personal Training late in life but I am grateful that I made that leap. My journey began as an uncoordinated teenager that had no skills with ball sports so I landed at a rowing club and found my tribe there. After spending around 10 years rowing and being physically strong and fit, I then proceeded to spend a long time bouncing backwards and forwards between being morbidly obese and in constant pain, then back to being fit enough to run half marathons in an hour and a half. The thing that held me back from consistency was mental health. I had a constant need to prove to myself that I didn't deserve success, so whenever I got there, my mind sabotaged me. When I finally met a coach and mentor who could tie the physical and the mental resilience together, that was when I was able to acheive my goals and be fitter and stronger in my mid-40's than I was as a young adult. Just through finding my purpose. Now I want to help people with their own journey, showing you what you are capable of by ensuring you are not only physically resilient, but also mentally. I don't look like an Instagram model, and never intend to. For me fitness is not a six pack on social media, fitness is being able to get myself out of bed and off a toilet when I'm 100. It's being able to do my first handstand ever at 46. It's being able to row a sub 7 minute 2000m. It's about achieving things I thought I was too old to achieve. After working as a geologist for 25 years I made the transition into health, wellness and fitness at quite a late stage of my working life. But the great thing is that it doesn't matter when you start a journey, you just have to start.
